Better than the last one, but still not up to par.
This is Sammy's third solo cd. Many things haven't changed about Sammy. The artwork for the cds are still REALLY bad (although he did spring for full artwork in a cd case this time), and it still appears thrown together (the spine of the cd doesn't even say Sammy Serious...Only the title of the cd. When I mentioned this to Sammy, he didn't even realize that his name was not on the cd spine or the front cover anywhere...This sort of thing shouldn't happen). What is different on this cd from his last cd Nuns In Prison is that the songs are WAY better here. While this cd falls short of where his debut The Doctor Will See You Now does, his ability to put together a nice cd of songs is evident. The first two tracks are GREAT songs. The best idea on the cd is the concept behind American Vets. Sadly, the song just isn't very good. One of the questions my wife always asks me is why does he sing like Kermit the Frog. I don't know the answer. She always says something like...that would be a great song is he didn't sound like he had a golf ball in his throat. Sammy, you know I love you and your music, and have for fifteen years. Here's my suggestion: don't talk about how the 4-3-2-1...album is dead. Go back and listen to it. The songs are amazing, your voice is amazing, and it's incredibly strong. This new cd is better, but you have so much more talent than these cds show. I know it because I have 4-3-2-1, Names, and the Doctor to prove it. Next time let's get some of that magic back!
