Album Notes
Consistent, positive audience responses at her live performances is what prompted Sandy Lusco Huffman to choose the songs on this album she entitled Classic Country, Bluegrass and Gospel Favorites. She sings Track #3 "The Tennessee Waltz", track #4 "Patsy Cline medley" and track # 6 "Make The World Go Away" with the same heartfelt emotion and sincerity of the original artists, but in a style uniquely her own. With an amazing blend of her own harmonies and others, along with a fine mix of lead guitar, acoustic guitar, steel, fiddle, piano, lap harp, banjo, drums, mandolin , bass and harmonica this album most certainly has captured that classic country, bluegrass and gospel flavor of the 70's - 80's. Her music and marriage partner, Ron Lusco, recorded his talents on the harmonica and bass on this album and sang the background vocals on the #13 "This Ole House" while he was in the midst of an 18 month battle with cancer. It was in his last 6 months of Ron's life that Sandy wrote "I'm Not Afraid." She testifies that song was an answer to her prayers for strength for her and Ron to trust God and let Him fight this battle with cancer, believing that no matter what happens their ultimate victory (eternal life) has been secured through their faith in Jesus Christ. It was after Ron's passing in 2011 that Sandy wrote "My Friend," a song about the power of God's Word to help and strengthen all who read it and believe it. Both songs are included it on this album and are truly anointed and inspiring.
Though Sandy Lusco Huffman wrote only two songs on this album, she is an accomplished songwriter, having written both the lyrics and melodies for over 150+ gospel, country, pop, folk and children’s songs. Her writing (and performing) began at the age of 13. At 14, her mother and mentor took Sandy to a recording studio to make her first demo of 5 original songs. At that time, both of her parents were actively searching for opportunities for her talents to be heard. At age 15 they entered Sandy into the Jamboree U.S.A. sponsored "Starquest" competition. It was on the stage of "Jamboree In The Hills" ( Brush Run Park, Ohio) that Sandy (known by her maiden name Sandy Brickner) performed an original song entitled "I Love That Country Music" and was awarded a year's contract to become the youngest regular member of the weekly live/radio show "Jamboree U.S.A," held at the Capital Music Hall in Wheeling, WV (the same show that would later give country singer Brad Paisley his start at an even younger age). She opened shows there for many nationally known artists such as Alabama, Hank Williams Jr., Alan Jackson, Tammy Wynette, Ronnie Milsap, Porter Wagoner, Donna Fargo, Johnny Paycheck, Bill Anderson and Boxcar Willie and did some traveling shows with the Jamboree staff band "The New Generation Express." At 17, Sandy recorded her first record of two original country tunes with the Jamboree U.S.A. staff band. Since then she recorded two cassettes, one of a mix or originals and cover tunes and the other of 22 original children’s songs. Her first 2 CD's "Where Are You?" and "Love Forever Lingers On", contained all original songs. Her album of beloved hymns "All The Way Home" contains the first Gospel song she wrote at age 19 "I Am Saved".
Upon surrendering her life to Christ at the age of 19, music became a calling and ministry. Whether she is on a big stage performing, singing over the radio or internet, at nursing and retirement homes, hospitals, churches, homeless shelters, banquet halls, fairs, festivals, backyards, courtyards, etc… Sandy views EVERY performance and EVERY recording she makes as a God given opportunity to touch people with His love that flows from her music. Audience and listeners frequently describe her voice as angelic and spirit filled. She has an amazing repertoire of music for audiences of ALL ages. Music spanning from the 1600’s to the present, including traditional and contemporary gospel, hymns and worship music, traditional country, modern country, bluegrass gospel, country bluegrass, oldies, pop, folk, patriotic and holiday songs. Her rendition of Disney favorites, TV and movie theme songs, silly action and nursery rhyme songs mesmerize youthful audiences. For 15+ years she has entertained patients and their families at Children's Hospital in Pgh. Pa. on a monthly basis and also performed for youth at schools and at festivals. She has a passion for spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the lost and broken through her music and messages. She is experienced in leading entire church services, revivals, retreats in both word and song. Sandy finds great joy in leading young people to surrender their lives to Christ and in mentoring them to use their talents for the Lord.
God answered Sandy's prayers to bring her another supportive, Christian life partner. 600 miles away, in the state of Georgia, a man who lost a wife of 28 years to cancer and experienced a painful divorce, was praying the same. In June of 2012 this man, Rodney Huffman, made a trip to PA to visit family. On his last night there he went with his family to a country music show at the Alpine Theatre in Hundred WV where Sandy was singing. After the show Rodney and Sandy met briefly. A week later Sandy received a four page, beautifully handwritten letter from Rodney that would be the start of what soon became a new life journey for both of them....a very happy union of faith and love. Both believe their meeting was a divine appointment in answer to their prayers. They married in October of 2012 upon which time Sandy made a move to Georgia and began performing under the name of Sandy Lusco Huffman.
