This EP started as nothing more than an idea. I know, I know, everyone says that, but really! It did!
I was in the studio doing background vocals for a buddy of mine, when all of a sudden the topic turned into "Sara, when are you going to put out your OWN album?" Umm... Well, how does one answer this? I've never been very open about my myself let alone my music. "How about you come down here on Wednesday, and we will just mess around with some recordings. Maybe write a song or two."
Gosh, this was just crazy. Me? Do a CD? You actually want ME in the studio?! ...Ok.
That Wednesday, I went to the studio. Little did I know that I would be walking out with my first original recording. Of course, it wasn't perfect. It needed some tweaking and many more instruments to be added, but this was the proof that I could make really do this. This was the spark that led me into a spiral of writing song after song after song. This was Mine.
During my many days and nights of writing, two songs seemed to stick out to me. Start Over and Shatterproof. Oh, what bipolar opposites these songs were, but I knew if this was going to be a truly diverse first act, opposites must learn to work together to create this EP. And so they did. The underlying anger and resentment of Shatterproof was countered by the sweet cry of redemption in Start Over. They took their differences and learned how to create a truly unique piece of art.
This Pre Release EP was given the name Start Over, not just because it is named after a song on the album, but because starting over is something I (and I'm sure most everyone else) need to learn how to do. The truth is, we will mess up, the world will knock us down, other people will hurt us, we will feel abandoned and weak, but if we don't learn how to forgive others and forgive ourselves, where will we be? I never said giving away second chances would be easy, but isn't that all you truly want out of people? A second chance?
You can find all three of these songs and more on Sara's upcoming Debut Album (to be released December-January 2013-2014)
