The idea for this song came to me during a trip to Germany. I was finger-picking an acoustic in a Travis style, and came up with these really full-sounding parts by playing low notes with my thumb. These became the early part of the song. For me, the recording and mixing process is very much a part of the artistry of music. I can't imagine how the exact emotional mood of the song should be until I add more instruments and parts, revise, etc.
Passages starts out very relaxing. Interlaced with classically-influenced solo lines, it takes you to a dreamy place while underneath it's punching out an unusual and strong bass guitar and drum groove. Early Morning dream changes it into a waltz beat and builds up energy as electric lead guitar and power drums close it out.
Many thanks Trinity Melvin (drums) and Tina Lane (vocal).
