Seattle SoundBYTES is an a cappella group based in the U District of Seattle, WA directed by Jer Wallis. Our mission is to have fun, and be as innovative and creative as possible.
So far, we have done so by making original arrangements (like Desert Rose), and entertaining audiences with a cappella musicals (check out brownpapertickets for our concerts in May 2012, which are inspired by The Hangover, Pirates of the Carribbean, and Ocean's Eleven!).
"Desert Rose / Satrangi Re" is an original arrangement composed by Revathi Murthy, which celebrates a bittersweet, forbidden love story in the desert. Inspired by Sting's "Desert Rose feat. Cheb Mami" and AR Rahman's "Satrangi Re", this song takes place in the northern deserts of India.
The key features of this arrangement are its strong harmony lines, its creative use of intertwining lyrics, Jer Wallis' heartfelt solo (Desert Rose), and Revathi Murthy's creative improvisation, which features her background in carnatic music (a traditional classical style of music from southern India).
Recorded at Viamount Records, Edited and Mixed by Sled Dog Studios, Mastered by Diovoce.
