ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Second Union's new CD, "Songs for Equality", has been selected as the soundtrack for the same-sex marriage documentary called "Will & Right".

The soundtrack grew out of the song "It's About Time", which was written the day same-sex marriage became legal in Massachusetts, and was inspired by the events on the steps of Cambridge City Hall at midnight on May 17, 2004. We were invited to perform it in New York City where 4 Horsemen Films saw us perform and asked to use it in their documentary. The other songs on the CD were also selected for use in the film and evolved from our growing support for same-sex equality.

"Gay for a Day" was written in support of three of our friends who have, and continue to struggle with, issues of acceptance from family and friends.

"Song for Senators" was inspired by the Senate vote to amend the Constitution as well as the attempts to silence the voices of those in the government who support same-sex equality.

These songs are our sincere attempt to bring more visibility to this issue and to help create more acceptance, compassion and support for same-sex equality. We believe that music is a medium that can reach people in ways that others can't, and we hope that people can use our songs as tools to create more peace in their own world.

More information, as well as all of our lyrics, song clips and a trailer of the film can be viewed through our website at www.SecondUnionMusic.com. If you have any questions or want to contact us, feel free to email us at info@secondunionmusic.com.

IN NEWSWEEKLEY

Could easily be the soundtrack for the current GLBT civil rights era.
Moving and uncomplicated, "Songs for Equality" could easily be the soundtrack for the current GLBT civil rights era. Containing simply and acoustic guitar, bass guitar and one male and female vocal, the folk duo Second Union, proves they can build a fire as warm as the Indigo Girls. "Song for Senators" borrows elements from Francis Scott Key with a lyrical twist. "Gay For a Day" is a melodic reminder that hate and discrimination still exist even in forms as subtle as internalized homophobia. And their lead tune, "It's About Time," is lackadaisical yet uplifting.
With each repeat play, the sound grows prettier and the message more poignant.
