About the Artist:
Shawn Alexander Harris was born in Medford, Oregon on May 30th 1968. I was the youngest child, ten years younger than the next in line, my sister Lesa. By the time I was ten years old I was playing everything she was playing on her piano just by watching and listening. I give her full credit for inspiring me to pursue music.
I could hear a song on the radio, go to the piano, and figure out the melody line and key right away. In 1978 my mother, realizing that I had a God gifted ear for music, took me to our local Tallman’s Music Store for some lessons. I remember the salesman standing up from his desk in the back of the store when he heard me play. He was surprised to see a 10 year old kid playing “The Entertainer”, “Feelings” and an original “Boogie-Woogie” piece that I learned from my sister.
Discovered by the salesman just prior to my first piano lesson, I was hired to play a Lowery Magic Genie out in front of that music store to draw customers in when they saw how easy it was to play like a pro with the “One Finger Touch” technology (basically a backing band that plays in key to whatever note you are pressing). I can remember crowds gathering around me as I played and knew at that moment that music was my destiny.
I played everything from the Hawaiian music, Elvis music my mother enjoyed, Country music my stepfather enjoyed and AM Radio from my sister’s room blasting everything from Elton John to ZZ Top to Bread. The recipe was brewing inside of me. I discovered the blues in its magical blend of Blues-Rock through groups like Cream, The Jimmy Hendrix Experience, early Fleetwood Mac (with Peter Green), Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Steve Miller. The passion and expressiveness dripped from the speakers and in to my soul. I was floored by how powerful a single note could be!
This is my first release. It is a variation of styles composed and produced in the Oregon State Penitentiary using only a Schecter Electric Guitar, a Boss BR-80 DAW and a Roland PMA-5 Sequencer. As I write each composition with the equipment that I have available, I learn more about the studio recording process and the sound quality improves. It used to be that you had to rent an expensive studio to produce a clean “Hi-Fidelity” recording using an engineer that was trained in operating the sophisticated equipment. Today however, technology has made it possible to produce studio quality recordings in the comfort of your home with a recorder the size of your cell phone! I believe that people will be pleasantly surprised that I was able to create each part of this music one track at a time, in the spirit of being a one-man band.

Thank you for taking an interest in my music and the time to listen. If you would like to comment on this work, I welcome you to contact me. You may write to:

I really enjoy closing my eyes and letting the blues/rock sounds take me away. Very soulful
