Jazz funk Gem
I love jazz, love funk, and maybe I have been looking in the wrong places but nothing new of late has appealed to me – I needed something to make me nod my head, tap my feet, play “air bass” play “air sax” before I gave up the ghost - and then SLAM – I stumble on this gem of a debut album!
Shawn states some of his influences as Grand Funk Railroad , Sly Stone, Larry Graham, , Jaco, Stanley Clarke, , James Jamerson, Motown, , Miles, Eric Dolphy, Jimi Hendrix, ,Kool & The Gang, , , Charles Erland , Ornette Coleman, Sly & the Family Stone, Dizzy Gilllespie, Little Richard, Jamaaladeen Tacuma,John Coltraine , SunRa, etc etc etc - the list goes on but he had ME at Sly Stone, Jaco and Stanley Clarke!!
A very funky album – real musicians, real music, don’t miss this and PLAY IT LOUD!!
