Maestro Shimon Knoll’s work, Ode to Marc Chagall, is a work for narrator, soprano, piano, small chamber orchestra and percussion. Maestro Knoll, whose compositions on the Bible and religious texts gave received critical acclaim the world over, presents Ode to Chagall as an homage and musical offering for Chagall in four movements; the poet, the lover, the great Jewish artist of the 20th century, and Finale. These four movements depict chronologically the biography and development of Chagall the artist, being born in Russia, his moving to France, then back to Russia, with subsequent moves to Berlin, Paris, Israel, United States, France, Israel, and finally returning to France where he died at the age of ninety-seven. Maestro Knoll displays Chagall in three dialogs utilizing the fine vocal timbre of tenor, Mircea Nedelesco and soprano Petra Mans.
