ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Darius “Shine-I” Semper (the “Artist”) was born at Peebles Hospital, Road Town, Tortola, British Virgin Islands (BVI). Due to his mother's strong BVI heritage He was educated, in the ways of a true Virgin Islander and as a result is cultured, ambitious, respectful and respectable.

As the youngest of the then four (4) children his mother was raising single-handedly, Shine-I quickly learned to write poetry as a way to escape the teasing and bullying handed down by his siblings. Equipped with powerful vocal chords, which he inherited from his mother, poetry soon turned to song and, as his consciousness increased his lyrics evolved.

In 2007 The Callaloo Poets’ Monthly Readings was blessed by the Artist’s debut performance and ever since it has been mentoring, vocal coaching and openings for various artist including Busy Signal; Anthony B; Damion “Junior Gong” Marley; Yellow Man; Pressure; Ky-Mani Marley; and Cocoa Tea. This husband, father of four sons, singer and song writer, is by no fair judgment, lacking the skills to accomplish his goal of representing the BVI as a Reggae Artist.

The title of Shine-I’s Debut Album is a pun. The album is entitled “The Foundation” not only because it is the first album, but more so, because it is reminiscent of the principle of Sankofa – going back to move forward. “Love and unity are the weapons we need to fight the wars we now face; for we fight not only against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers and the evil forces of the world. Humanity and The Virgin Islands especially, once possessed such humble characteristics but have lost sight due to greed and selfishness. We must return to The Foundation!”

The Debut Album was written entirely by Shine- I (excluding the introductory track written by his wife and "Black Love", a collaboration written with brethren and fellow artist Bradford "Maccabee Royalson" Prince) at a time when he too needed encouragement and hope. Drawing inspiration from his surroundings, family and friends, lyrics about love, crime, unity and self-determination flowed from writer, through pen and onto paper…"The Foundation" was born!

After such a long journey to get to this place in time, Shine-I’s mission has now evolved. He desires not only to fight and strive for regional and international stardom; he vows to be committed to helping to change the B.V.I.’s Music Industry so that generations to follow would have a smoother road to travel.

Simply put; Shine-I is an artist on a mission!
