ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Shpilkes Klezmer Band plays the lively, living melodies of the Jewish people with a restless energy - shpilkes - that makes you want to stand up, sing along, and dance in the aisles.

Shpilkes is a Yiddish word meaning "restless energy," and is an apt description of our music. Shpilkes Klezmer Band plays the lively, living melodies of the Jewish people, from the playful tunes and Yiddish songs of Klezmer to the passionate rhythms and Ladino songs of Sephardic music. We bring traditional music to life with well known big-band and folk renditions, contemporary interpretations, and improvisation. It is hard to listen to our music and sit still, and we encourage audiences to sing along and even dance in the aisles.
