Silent Lions somehow manage to be Toledo Ohio’s premier super group with only two members. Dean Tartaglia plays effected bass: utilizing octave pedals, freak fuzz sounds, atmospheric synths and a whole arsenal of vocal distortions; while drummer Matt Klein grooves and thrashes beside him, often providing soulful singalong harmonies. Silent Lions’ live shows sound as thick and creamy as they do on record. Their music has been tagged as any of the following; “Spooky Soul”, “Chill Punk”, “Heroin Dance Rock”, “Black Keys Play Nevermind”, and “Hall and Oates Stoner Rock”.
Their first release, 'The Parliaments' finds a weird world of ridiculously catchy pop hooks, born into lo-fi chaos, yet organized into a smooth flow from each 'verbed out track to the next. Produced by their unofficial third member and synth guru, Zach Shipps (Electric Six, Atomic Numbers, Mood Elevator), the songs draw you in, the production letting you hear them in a different light each time.
Silent Lions will be touring the Midwest for the first time this winter, but Dean and Matt are far from road virgins. Each member of the band has gained local, regional and national cred in their individual projects (The Sights, Mind Fish, GOLD, Bikini Babes) touring the Midwest, Eastcoast and USA at least a dozen times, playing with the likes of Tenacious D, Coolio, Fish Bone, Mike Watt, Fitz and The Tantrums and Walk the Moon. Silent Lions aren’t really looking to prove anything to anyone, they just want to become better performers, tour, and become local favorites at the Ottawa Tavern.
