musicians on this record:
Frank Bango: piano, organ and guitar, Jeremy Chatzky (Loser's Lounge, Laura Cantrell): stand up bass. Mike Chylinski (Drugstore): drums, Sim Cain (David Poe, John Zorn): drums. Sean Eden (Luna): guitar, Simone White: vocals, guitar.

Uniquely beautiful recording!
I absolutely loved the CD! Thoughtful lyrics, haunting melodies.

Jon Berger, Boog City, February 2004 issue

...sensitive, strangely soulful, bizarre...
With a breathy delivery style and fairly mild accompaniment, most every word
that Simone White whispers can be heard... She writes a good two thirds of the songs (one of her co-producers, Frank Bango, writes the balance-
except for a Brill Building number) but they're all of a piece: eerie and (unsurprisingly) sincere...
Simone White wears taffeta on the back cover of her album. And you're pretty sure, after listening, that she's probably worn that skirt for weeks at a time. Beneath the skirt you can just glimpse her toes. White is barefoot on a wooden floor. She's that kind of woman: sensitive, strangely soulful, bizarre... White's got an eye for interesting details. "A lot of steel was used to make this city·" White says in Blueprint, "how much do you think it weighs?"... But observation is key throughout. The final song is one of Bango's, "Olivia 101," a number about a student's favorite subject, the aforementioned Olivia. With a peppier arrangement, this would be a fantastic pop song, but in this understated style, it's a subtle document of unrequited love...

Sounds like making love beneath the massy gathered clouds of the apocalypse

Simone White.....Surely destined for greater things!
Where do you start with this CD? In essence they are all relatively simple songs but I think it is the delivery and the way they are performed that elevates this disc above anything I have heard in this genre. I love the voice in particular but it is the way the songs are put over and the complementary musical accompaniment that achieve the fantastic end result. This could be called chill out music but I think that does it a disservice. I can't listen to it without giving it my utmost attention as I pick up on something different each play. If you like this the new CD I am the man is well worth getting. Apart from the updated versions of 3 of the outstanding tracks from here, it is another wonderful example of the artists talent for performing songs with a message in her own particular style.

Simone has the kind of honey voice that, before you can think about it, transports you to a place of sweetness.

Simone captured my ear with her contribution to the Audi commercial and my eye in Paradiso, Holland. Bought 'I am the man' at the show and ordered her first cd a few weeks later. I have downloaded the concert as a mp3 at fabchannel and part of the video as well. I feel like a groupy again. Sometimes a voice or a text hits you like a rock. Both and the same time is very rare.

I like Simone music a lot
I got the new CD ("I am the Man") then, wanted to have the 2003 CD too. It's excellent and I am very pleased to have it. I've been sending friends to the SW MySpace site. There will be new faces at her next NYC show.

subtle, exquisite, wry, and haunting
Even if I can't spend the whole day listening to this CD, after two weeks getting to know it I find myself waking up with one or the other of the songs flitting through my head. It's like that: the tunes come on subtle, never demanding your attention however much they'd like it -- and then you find that the exquisite songcraft, the wry melancholy, have wound their way into you and are now haunting you in your very bones.
