It has an electrifying blend of styles with liberal sprinklings of lounge, trip-hop electronic and world music. Completely accessible, this is music that’s dared to step outside the mainstream, a refreshing break from the every day, finely spiced exotica for those ready for a journey. The main driving forces behind Sir DNA are Andris Sice and Matt Jones. My Left Hand is a perfect echo of the multiculture of their hometown Sydney, Australia and the world at large.
Ray Taylor’s silky smooth talking on “Time is Honey” harks back to an episode of chef in South Park. Jeff Crawley’s harmon-muted trumpet combines perfectly with the synth blips, screeches and other synthesizer tones, electric piano, bass and slightly mangled percussion. Speech sampled from a long forgotten movie sweetens the mix like honey.
“Prism of Love” combines traditional jazz instrumentation, sax and acoustic bass, with floating synth, electric piano and Afro-Cuban percussion to create chilled out music to dream that perfect dream.
Steve Hunter’s “flamenco” bass on “Dreaming” is simply gorgeous and along with the ethereal singing, dijeridoo, Latin rhythms and subtle touches of electronica is worldbeat at its finest.
“My Left Hand” is elegant music that defies genres and pigeonholes. It will reward careful listening. Beautiful and diverse, it's a triumphant debut.
