Album Notes
Sky Smeed
Independent Release
"Sky Smeed could easily be from Oklahoma if he weren't from Kansas. Many of his songs speak of hard times and lonely places. Granted, Oklahoma doesn't have a monopoly on hard times and lonely places, but Smeed comes across with a style that takes one back to the early Oklahoma folk music pioneers, without feeling stuck in the past.
The blues are another strong presence in Smeed's latest offering, self-titled Sky Smeed, resulting in an album with nine tracks full of stories and catchy rhythms that make you want to listen to them. His songs can be joyful as well as somber, and he does both well, without over-burdening them with too much instrumentation. They are sung in an honest, straightforward voice, which lends itself well to the overall tone of the record." Lyle Deiter The Currentland, October 2012

"Smeed was one of the happiest performers in recent memory for me. He was constantly smiling and seemed genuinely appreciative of the applause. His music was perfect for the cowboy bar. He mixed straight forward country (not Kenny Chesney country, the good kind) with some blues songs and some more upbeat numbers. He was even able to mix in a Townes Van Zant cover. Some very well played lap steel guitar was delivered in heavy doses and Smeed’s set was all the better for it." ~ Vocals on Top 9/16/11
