The Slayen & Fox Guitar Duo
Mike Slayen and Scott Fox are both natives to San Diego, California. The duo grew up in the same neighborhood, attended the same schools, and both began playing guitar at a very young age. Though growing up playing rock 'n' roll, they both found themselves studying classical guitar with well-known teacher and performer, Fred Benedetti (member of the Benedetti/Svoboda Duo) at Grossmont College. However, with all this in common, they really didn't know each other very well until the late 1990's while attending San Diego State University. There, Mike earned his B.M. in Guitar Performance and studied musicology for his Masters in Arts degree. Scott earned a B.A. in Psychology, and just recently completed his Masters in Music Composition.
It was during this time that they decided to form The Slayen & Fox Guitar Duo. Their diverse experience in music began to evolve into what is now a blend of Latin, flamenco, classical, and popular styles. From the onset of this duo, they wanted to create something that was appealing to a wide audience, yet at the same time, keep a virtuosic edginess that guitar connoisseurs could appreciate.
In the late summer of 2002, they decided it was time to capture their sounds permanently on CD. They began writing and recording in September and finished the project in mid-December. The result was a 10 song CD entitled "Reflections Of San Diego," a musical tribute to the beautiful city of San Diego. The CD hit local stores in January of 2003, and is also available online at CDBaby.com. The Slayen & Fox Guitar Duo will be actively promoting their new CD at venues all over San Diego, Los Angeles, and other Southern California areas.
