ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Big Smith's second studio CD, "Big Rock," anticipates the band's move toward the electricity that now colors their shows with an emphasis on piano-laden southern rock grooves that sit comfortably alongside their original guitar-mandolin-washboard-bull fiddle hillbilly sound. These boys come from a large musical family, and on this record three additional cousins add their voices, banjo and fiddle to Big Smith's already energetic music. Ron Davis of 417 magazine wrote "the words are sharp, the viewpoints knowing, and without apology...the band creates happy noise about subjects that can be dreadfully dark. And it works." Cdconsumer.com said, "The tunes on Big Rock resonate with sounds of expert musicianship passed down through generations. This along with lyrics containing numerous local references make for a truly authentic work...these guys are something special."
