Something really special has been created here. It’s been found helpful by those going through tough times as well.
The album also features saxophone playing by the late 'Dick' Morrissey, one of Europe's finest jazz musicians of his generation, and rock-style live drumming by Tony de Sarzec. Recorded at ‘The Music Factory’, Cardiff, Wales and 'Ventura Studios’, Brixton, London in 1987/'88. Full lyrics are available free from Sonia King’s web-site (- see link).
Fans’ comments: “I consider it God's blessing that I discovered this treasure.” “The title track [is a] visionary song and arrangement”. “I think you had the vision of the final days of this age”. “This album gave me what I needed”. “I found this CD very healing, enabling a renewed closeness with God.”
Sonia got together with rock-drummer, Tony de Sarzec, a member of her Church. He happened to know ‘Dick’ Morrissey and involved him in this project. Morrissey’s fluency of playing - unforced and expressed in characteristically broad and sweeping tones - is what attracted the greatest admiration of his fans. 'Dick' performs in several songs and throughout ‘The Summer of My Life’ and ‘Yerushalayim’.
Financial and time constraints were sufficiently overcome to produce a work which clearly glorifies God and has been used by Him to help others.
There are wonderful turns of phrases to look out for throughout, e.g. “clean me from hidden mistakes” in ‘The Law Of The Lord’ and in ‘Genesis’: “God fashioned a man. From red clay and the dusty ground, … , but Adam was alone.” The last four words being sung with such poignancy.
Sit back and let the first track, ‘A New World’. flow over and into you! Then Psalm 51 gives rise to a crying out to God in ‘Father Have Mercy’ and the vocal harmonies (sung by Sonia herself) in ‘The Gathering Of Israel’ are an exquisite soaring which echoes God’s love for His people.
‘The Summer Of My Life’ is a beautiful expression of love for God; whilst “Together, My Friend’ meets us where it hurts and encourages us on. The final ‘Yerushalayim’ is rejoicing before the Lord God.
The gravitas of God’s character revealed in this album combined with the passion in the singing are likely to be what enables a deep connection between God and the hearer.
