Beginning in early 2004, as just a weekend band, Sonset Down began playing shows in the North Florida area and slowly begn to make a name for themselves. They began playing a steady amount of shows all over Florida, including the 2006 Cornerstone Florida Music Festival. After losing guitarist Robbie Carter in July 2006, Sonset Down quickly found a replacement with longtime friend and guitarist Bert Connell, and asked him to fill the void. Afte the addition of vocalist Michael Massey in August 2006, Sonset Down really began to find a niche for themselves and began to develop a new sound more akin to hardcore acts such as Underoath and Norma Jean than their former emo and pop influences such as Relient K and Forever Changed.
Hard times fell on the boys in November 2006 after longtime drummer, Matt Fidler, decided to leave SOnset Down to join With Blood Comes Cleansing. Relief came soon after from drummer Matt Smith, formerly of Waycross, GA band Oakstreet Thesis.
Along the way Sonset Down has worked to forge a new sound by incorporating all their influences past and present into their music. New member changes brought new influences and new direction, but it did not affect the bands overriding goal: to reach people with their music and their faith. The band began talking about touring full time and what needed to be done to make it happen. After prayer and discussion the members decided to relocate to Valdosta, GA and pursue their dream full-time. However, with a promising career and a marriage ahead of him, Michael Massey wasn't able to commit to touring full time. So they added long time friend Daniel Webb to take over lead vocals.
With a brand new lineup and brand new songs, it's no wonder Sonset Down has been turning heads everywhere they go. From playing packed out venues to huge shows like The Showdown's CD Release show in Jacksonville, FL, people everywhere are saying "What in tarnation is up with this Sonset Down band!?" Taking influences from classic bands all the way from Lynrd Skynyrd to Pantera and from new favorites such as Every TIme I Die and Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, Sonset Down has cleverly crafted their own unique brand of nasty Southern Rock. With an electrifying stage presence which includes flailing fuitars, relentless drums, flying spit wars, and pants-ripping metal stances, everyone is sure to be entertained at a show. For the past six months, Sonset Down has been seen displaying their talents all over the southeast with bands like Chasing Victory, Flee The Seen, and With Blood COmes CLeansing. They were also recently seen on tour with Tennessee favorites A Plea For Purging who has signed with Facedown Records. Their plans are to continue to tour and pursue a career in the music industry.
Leaving behind jobs and loved ones the band relocated to one place and began writing songs for their new recorda dn playing as many shows as possible. Over the past few months Sonset Down has been writing and recording new material for their new album for their new album now released by Wounded Records.
