Bobaloshki Island

by Souvenirs From Fiji

Forget all that you\'ve heard in the past decade of music, and take a chance on something fresh and exciting. Mid-fi tropical fuzz rock awaits you; it\'s heavy, it\'s noisy, but it\'s also melodic.

Album Notes
Very little is known about Souvenirs From Fiji.

Legend has it, someone was tanning on the beach in Nanaimo, British Columbia, when a large box washed up onto the shore. It resembled a treasure chest and was covered in seaweed. After prying it open, the contents were revealed -- and no treasure was to be found. However, the box did include several postcards and cassette tapes, hiding under a layer of sand. These tapes, bruised and battered, have found their way across Canada, and the time has now come for the Souvenirs From Fiji project to introduce itself to the world. The End.

Bronchintinis Records has found its new rager with Souvenirs From Fiji, a one-man-band who fuses grunge, progressive pop, concept albums, tropical instruments, and ghostly distorted vocals to create something new and appealing. Jeff Cancade recorded Bobaloshki Island during spring 2008 in the Montreal basement studio of producer Matt North. The album has a unique sound which can be described as \"mid-fi,\" meaning that it\'s somewhere between garage rock and glossy radio rock. Bobaloshki Island is a concept album about being stranded on a deserted island with a group of strangers, who learn to have fun, become resourceful, and appreciate the simple lifestyle and interactions of non-technological society. The dramatic finale involves a run-in with pirates, who kidnap them and threaten to make them walk the plank.
