Recorded live on tour of USA in May-June 1999. A mixture of recordings from gigs and radio sessions mixed in with field recordings from the tour. Originally released as a series of limited edition CDs as tour support by Insound. The original Insound CD quickly sold out and the album was released along with a booklet by Evil Twin Publications.
The booklet is a neatly packaged 12 page, black and white photo -zine. made up of photos taken by Stacy Wakefield (Evil twin Publications) on the tour
Live 1999 features 11 tracks, improvisations live on air at college radio stations, two new songs recorded live at the make out room in San Francisco, along with jams from other live shows and field recordings of sounds from across the USA, including steamboats on the mississippi, a singer in the streeet, TV adverts and a wind up gramaphone going bonkers.
The CD flows seamlessly through the sounds providing an aural snapshot of cinematic proportions of the USA at the turn of the millenium. The spaceheads unique sound of looped electrified trumpet (Andy Diagram) and drums(Richard Harrison) is at its most powerful when captured live, as was proved by the success of their previous live CD “round the outside” recorded in 1996.
"IF I HADN’T seen it with my own eyes, I might not have believed it myself. The two men who called themselves the Spaceheads played music no man or woman had ever played before. It was remarkable. They knew it, too, and they smiled the smile of transcendence without a hint of guile. In an age when culture is threatened with drowning beneath oceans of hyperbole, and the masses are desensitized to the most profound of human epiphanies, to witness a startlingly unique musical experience was absolutely incredible."
