by Squonk Opera

The soundtrack to Squonk's hallucinatory and comic theatrical interpretation of Dante's epic. Rock opera at its finest, tracks swoon from spare electronic love songs to demonic pop arias, carried along on rolling piano and accordion and sax.

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Squonk Opera is one of America's most innovative and long-standing multimedia theater troupes. This is the soundtrack to their 2002 show "Inferno," a hallucinatory and comic theatrical interpretation of Dante's epic. A rock opera like no other, you can hear the influences of Philip Glass, Muse, Radiohead, but ultimately the emotional sweeps and atmosphere created are unique. Driving piano, accordion and soaring vocals are the signature sounds.

"Best Score"
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

"As an album, Inferno is successful on just about any level you'd like to look at… maddening stereo sound collections augmenting a psych-ward repetitive piano roll …accordion-led electro."
City Paper

"Old as Dante, New as MTV"
American Theatre
