With this recording the Stageband celebrated its 25th anniversary. The Stageband is a professional big band from Groningen, The Netherlands. The band acts as a breeding ground for young talent from the north of the Netherlands and as a springboard into the professional music scene. The objective of the band is to promote contemporary jazz music for big band. This is reflected by the pieces of two world-class composers Jim McNeely and Maria Schneider. Besides that the Stageband encourages contemporary dutch composers, arrangers, and soloists. This is represented on this recording by Anton Goudsmit, Henri Gerrits, and Jan Wessels respectively. At the same time the Count Basie classic symbolises the band's respect for the big band tradition.
"The Stageband exists of very talented young musicians! I'm impressed by the exciting rhythm section, solid brass and reed sections and the high level of the soloists. Great compositions and arrangements performed in a very musical way. My compliments!" - Joan Reinders, composer, arranger, conductor Millennium Jazz Orchestra
"I'm delighted the Stageband has produced a CD of such a high musical quality. Having cooperated with the band a few times, I really appreciate the positive attitude and vibe, but above all the fun in playing! Musical director Jeroen Rol is a true professional, creating the right sound. The repertoire choice is excellent, the soloists are flourishing. The ensemble playing sounds disciplined and musical. I'm positive abuot the Stageband continuing their development." - Henk Meutgeert, director of the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam
