ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
For other Stairway CDs 'No Rest : No Mercy' & 'Bleeding Heart' not available through CD Baby, go to www.stairwaymusic.co.uk

In the beginning STAIRWAY were influenced by the 80’s metal era.
Their Debut CD, 'No Rest : No Mercy', produced by Paul Hodson (Hard Rain, Bob Catley), was released by Edge Records in 1993 and hailed Stairway’s International popularity. The album was released in Japan later that same year, and debuted at #48 in the Japanese Import Charts. After completing contractual obligations with their former label, Stairway independently released their 2nd CD, 'Bleeding Heart' in July 1999.
During 2002 Stairway's 3rd album 'On Hallowed Ground ' was released to great reviews and media feedback, as well as incredible support from fans worldwide.
In 2003 the track 'Under the Gun', taken from the ‘On Hallowed Ground’ album, was chosen to feature on a CD of Metal Bands released by American Label MIB Music.
Further to calls for their debut album, Stairway signed a deal with Retroactive Records in the USA to re-release the 'No Rest : No Mercy' album as a Limited Edition. Concerts to follow this up took place in 2005, followed by an incredible final gig appearance in October ’05 at Metalfest Germany Co-headlining with Rob Rock (USA) and Narnia (Sweden).

In 2005/06 the band began recording their new CD – a disc of pure Power Rock.
Gripping vocals, shredding lead guitar and a strangely optimistic melancholic angst are the meat & potatoes of Stairway’s 4th album outing ‘The Other Side Of Midnight’.
A full on, power metal rock album capable of leaving even the most hardened metal fan shaking and wanting more.
The Other Side Of Midnight is as pure and emotional as it gets. With thick layers of true metal guitars, searing vocals, pumping bass and thunder kicking drums. This, in-your-face onslaught of pure British Power Metal, is able to combine the genius of Iron Maiden with the boldness and art rock of Magnum, and all while crafting a tightly produced, hook-laden metal album appealing to classic rock, indie rock and nu-metal fans alike.
To put it another way, Stairway’s The Other Side Of Midnight takes you to a time when the party has just begun, the venue is steaming and a cacophony of excitement is brewing as the final onslaught of pure volume is unleashed on a fully expectant audience.
Here is an album that unashamedly thrives on optimism, and has plenty of it. This is the album you always crave after when the dark times seem to be setting in. This is the spectacle that is Britain’s power metal phenomenon STAIRWAY.

Hard Rock/Metal
Since releasing its very fine third full length album "On Hallowed Ground" in 2002, UK based Stairway placed the track “Under The Gun” (from "On Hallowed Ground") on the Defenders Of Metal: Volume 1 compilation in 2003 before Retroactive Records re-issued its 1993 sophomore effort "No Rest, No Mercy" two years later. Originally released in only Japan and Europe, "No Rest, No Mercy" was now made available for the first time in the USA and included new album artwork in addition to a bonus track in “Anybody There?” (which was previously only found on the Japanese version). Returning in 2006 with perhaps its strongest effort ever in "The Other Side Of Midnight", Stairway continues to combine elements of straightforward hard rock and metal to create a first-rate work certain to appeal to fans of Narnia, Whitecross, Shining Star, Audiovision, Impellitteri and Rivera Bomma. What stands out most about the album is not only its consistency but its versatility as well, delivering several upbeat had rockers (“No Mercy” & “Soldiers Of Heaven”), a pair of tracks moving in an epic flavored direction (“Burn” & “Taste The Blood”), a slower blues metal number (“She Calls”), a ballad (“My Life Goes On…) and even an instrumental (“Cantabile”).

"The Other Side Of Midnight" finds Stairway maintaining the same high level of performance found on its past efforts. Lead vocalist Graeme Leslie, for example, really comes into his own here, continuing to contribute his smooth sounding mid-octave ranged vocal style while adding an element of grit to his delivery on “Pray For The Children” and even reflecting a Dio-like vibe on “Taste The Blood”. Guitarist Pete Jennens, a shredder in the truest sense of the word, is a vastly underrated musician who deserves to rank with the likes of Rex Carroll (Whitecross) or Joshua Perahia (Joshua). If in doubt then check out his work on “No Mercy” and “Soldiers Of Heaven”. Rob Jennens nails a mega tight bass guitar sound and rounds out the rhythm section with drummer Andy Edwards.

The HOLY POWER of METAL is upon us.
Amazing 80's style guitar hero power metal with a beefy modern production. This cd is simply awesome. Great songs with Schenker style leads and meaningful lyrics. The cd flows well with a good variety of tempo. ALL KILER and no FILLER. Get it now if you are a fan of this style of metal.
If not, then you are missing out....
