ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Experimenting with synthesizers since 1985, Stan King had always looked for ways of creating unique and powerful sounds. In Dark Voyage, he fuses many different elements of Ambient, Electronic Body Music, Electronica, and Sci-Fi/Horror film scores.

Always looking for ways of creating unique sounds, Stan strives to push the envelope in the processes and technique of sound design. He uses the current technology of virtual synthesis and effects, computers and digital audio workstations to shape and layer the sonic atmospheric audio landscape so dominant in his music.

Dark Voyage takes you on a sonic audio journey that catapults you into another dimension. This is Stan King's exploration into the new territory of Advanced Ambient Music.

dark voyage
i have to say i'm absolutely astounded with how good it is...excellent work Stan....

the whole album is synth based... i kinda class it as 'dark synth based'.

the tracks flow flawlessly...(you gotta play this loud in the car or headphones to apprieciated the levels that are hidden within it).

the whole album takes you and plunges you deep inside the mind of the artist Stan King, then takes you on a musical 'rollercoaster' the
music takes you from one dark persona to another......
a masterpiece of instrumentation...from the deep pounding synth.to the almost whisper like underlying tones.

if i had to state another artist that could be associated with this style then i'd have to say Jean Michel Jarre...but with a completely different slant and style to it....
but don't take my word for it...buy it and give it a whirl for yourself...every track will mean something different to every person that hears it...

like i said earlier a 'masterpiece'.
if this is the beginning of the 'artist' Stan King then bring it on.
i for one am eager for more...

thanks to stan....for his hard work and dedication to creating this album ...keep up the good work......and lets hear more from you.

Great Debut!
I learnt about this albums existance through discussions on the Gary Numan fansite, Numanme, where the artist himself pops in for a chat. So partly due to fellow fan support, but mainly due to the fact this album sounded my type of thing, I ordered it.
Having received it last week and giving it a few listens over the weekend, I would give my recommendation to anyone who enjoys ambiant electronic music that they take the time to check it out for themselves- Have a listen to the samples here to check it out.
I love this album. It reminds me a lot of Jean Michel Jarre in places, and of course the music of Gary Numan. There's some hints of Billy Currie for my ears as well. It has that ability to transport you, and like all good albums in this genre, creates a soundtrack for your imagination. The images just emerge. The more you listen, the more those abstract pieces start to reveal nuances for you. Could easily be a movie soundtrack.
I can only think of one downside really-This genre of music seems to have a strong love it/hate it basis. In my opinion you will either love it or simply won't get it. It's way more likely to be the former though, as obviously if you're looking through this part of CD Baby's catalog you're a fan of the genre. And repeat spins will allow you to get the most out of the album. Top stuff.

Stan King: Dark Voyage
The conventional way to describe ambient music is to attempt to convey the pictures, images and emotions the pieces convey.
This cinematic method is wholly fitting of Stan King’s album Dark Voyage as; it is indeed, truly a movie soundtrack in waiting.
More accomplished than expected of a first album, and much more than just a collection of cold electronic rhythms, each track is a picture in its own right, framed with emotions and atmospheres of their own, and would not be out of place incorporated into the next Sci Fi blockbuster.
My Shame is a multilayered powerhouse of a track with a driving beat from the intro, right all the way through to the end, punctuated with a resounding full stop. All the excitement of setting out with drive and optimism on a new mission of single mindedness and strength, this one will stay with you.
Haunting suspense and the tension of a chilling melody resound through the drum beats of Lost In Cydonia
We enter a vast cavernous space and hear the voices from ancient beings echo around us in An Alien Burial, and the memories of paranormal activity in Chanting In An Alien Temple.
Cybertribe steps up the tempo once again with driving beat and adrenalin for a fast retreat to safety.
Obsession is a happy discovery, an optimistic mix of complex melody and understated beats, whilst we gain consciousness to all the new wonders that surround us on Emerging From Cryosleep.
The gentle fluid beginning of Thorium expands into echoes of melody and gains momentum as it threads through, hypnotising the listener…. reminiscent of Jean Michel Jarre.
This Dying Moon takes us through a vast empty continent as we navigate through the floating debris of long lost civilizations to our next destination.
Accomplished, sophisticated, and highly descriptive, The only thing needed to complete the experience on this Dark Voyage is the accompanying celluloid … but until then, just close your eyes and enjoy the journey, you will not be hurrying back home.
