Songs of the Castles of Wales

by Stephen M Nicholas

A selection of Welsh Castles. Their stories have been researched and condensed into lyrics placed with the music composed to suit each personality. Most are songs from the perspective of the castle or its builders and invaders. Very Atmospheric.

Album Notes
Although I am from a rock, pop and blues background, the idea of writing songs about castles like a challenge. 10 castles and 5 years later I had my album. The research was a big part. You can write about anything in three minutes if you want and I sometimes do. But as I read and travelled Wales visiting my subjects I realised that I had to try to do them Justice, from the massive fortress of Caerphilly to the beautiful landscape-bathed Abergavenny, I found that pride, arrogance, fortitude, flamboyance, romance cunning and grandeur were just a few of the traits revealed in the stories of these stone galleons that have sailed through time to allow us to inspect them and dream. I chose the music that I thought would best suit the castles and I'm proud of the result.
I think if I had to choose one word that captured the mood of my album, it would be, atmospheric.
So, pour yourself a drink dim the lights and see if you agree.
