ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The sounds and textures on "Mystic Splendor" are original compositions that were spontaneously improvised. They evolved from experiments with technology as well as the creative process itself, allowing and trusting it to work creating this music. It is with delight that this creative music is offered for your listening pleasure.

Steve August, is an eclectic pianist with considerable strengths in both the Jazz and Classical idioms. He is a composer and arranger and author lives in beautiful Northern Michigan and has performed throughout the US for over 20 years in clubs, resorts and in concerts. He performs often in a solo as well as a group setting. He has performed with many of his own Jazz Trios and Jazz Quartets and as a sideman in various settings. He recently achieved a Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies performance degree from Western Michigan University. He performs often on Mackinac Island, Michigan in the summer months in solo and trio setting. Mackinac Island is the backdrop to the highly romantic movie titled "Somewhere in Time."

In addition to performing Steve is a very active teacher and educator. His studio schedule is full with many aspiring pianists, bassists and those seeking greater musical understanding of the inner workings of music making. Steve started the annual SUMMER JAZZ weekly workshop for Jazz Education in Northern Michigan. This workshop is open to all levels and all instruments in Northern Michigan during the summer months. Watch for details on this workshop.

Gracefully emotive and creative piano improvisations
"Mystic Splendor" is a work of art. Pianist Steve August is a seasoned veteran and it shows in this work. You can't help but be transformed with his passionate, lyrical performance throughout this CD. Listen to "Overture and the River" and prepare to transported to another time and another place with his gracefully emotive and creative improvisations. He's in a league of his own. Highly recommended! - Danjacobsmusic.com

Take an amazing journey through a musical landscape with a great artist.
What enthralled me about this CD was the breadth and ambition of the music. The musical styles ranged from rhapsodic delicate piano pieces to exhilirating techno-bop rhythms. It is improvisational music at its best - straight from the artist's soul to the listener.
