Sometimes it takes a while for wishes and dreams to come true. The idea of recording some of the old standards that I learned at an early age, along with a new original composition, has always been a goal of mine.
While growing up in Suffield, Connecticut, I was introduced to musical theater in high school. While performing lead roles in Carousel and Pajama Game, I was also studying music at Hartt Music College for two years. After graduating High School in 1974, I attended Western Connecticut State College as a Music Education major, but only stayed one year. I then began my music career as a vocalist and guitarist in the U.S. Navy Band in 1976. I was stationed in Norfolk, VA and spent 5 years performing and traveling. Once out of the military, I continued to play music with various groups in the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area, until 1992. I then attended Old Dominion University, and graduated in 1995 with a degree in Music. After graduation, I began teaching music in 1996 for Norfolk Public Schools, and have continued to perform throughout the Hampton Roads area. Getting back into the studio after 20 years and working with an extraordinary pianist and musician, John Toomey, and a talented engineer, Rob Ulsh, has allowed the concept for this recording to become a reality. It was a challenge to compile a collection of songs that would appeal to a wide age range, while at the same time, create a relaxing atmosphere for listening. But now, after many years, making this CD has allowed the dream to come true.
This album is dedicated to my son and daughter along with my family and friends who have been saying that I should have done this recording years' ago!
