Album Notes
When i was unable to get around unaided I entered singing competitions while on crutches, sticks and a broom handle... the latter had a crutch stopper and handle fixed on it. People called me 'Moses'. I found it better to be thought a little out there so to speak and to be wary of than to look vulnerable and easy prey when I went to the toughest and roughest areas of London who didn't appreciate any performance that beat their local hero or heroine. I sang for my life... in order to win money to pay for treatment to aid my recovery that wasn't available on the NHS. I had to win, my life depended on it, I had to make the pain less, more bearable, survivable, so I went for power and range etc. This was my forte, I literally blew away the opposition, so when my partner mentioned I should consider lookig at what nMichael Buble is doing and maybe sing the American Songbook classics myself. I had been so out of touch with the music scene that I hadn't even heard of Buble let alone that eh had been the No1 selling male artist for the past 5 years at that time. I thought to set myself apart from other singers with my power and passion and so songs that didn't allow that I thought would be boring for me to sing, but listening to Buble's renditions I then listened to Sinatra in earnest and really appreciated his expression and new the songs he did would be most suited to me by that. I have since recorded most of the classics and intend to release them shortly in my album 'Steve James Sings Sinatra'. First I'd like to release a few singles to gauge wether people like what I bring to these great songs. I saw Sinatra sing 'One For My baby One More For The Road' on an old black and white t.v. show, it was so atmospheric and his performance was mesmeric... I really wanted to sing that song and so here it is. I hope people like it and I don't mean in a Facebook way, I simply mean I hope people like what I do.
