Album Notes
I have always had the greatest admiration for the quality of voice and the expression Frank Sinatra brought to a song once he'd found his way and come into his own, having matured and moved away from the bobby-socks period when he was younger and I understand, took a leaf out of Billie Holliday’s book. He is right up my street, a kindred spirit in the sense that I to express everything I sing with clear enunciation and powerful heartfelt expression. I have always wanted to sing the greats from the American songbook and would have beaten Buble to the punch had fate been kinder to me, but he is the business, I like him a lot and I am glad he has popularised these songs once again. In recent years Robbie Williams has also shown his liking and respect for those great artists of yesteryear, especially Sinatra by performing a most commendable tribute and I understand Rod Stewart recently completed 5 American Songbook albums. Well now I tilt my hat with the utmost respect to the greats and great songs, bringing my unique brand of expression and power. I loved singing ‘I’ve Got You Under My Skin’, it is definitely one of my favourites being so dramatic and allowing for both sensitivity and powerful expression. I also performed it for video and it just all came together as one of those special moments… it’s best to find it in my videos section on my website. It’s also on YouTube and is the one that looks close to being black and white, as opposed to the live performance of the same song coloured purple by bad lighting.
