Album Notes
What a Wonderful World
This song is so quintessentially Louis Armstrong that many would say to leave it alone, don’t mess with perfection, that you’re doomed by inevitable comparison or that it simply cannot be thought of being any other way. I understand where people are coming from, but I always wanted to see what I could do with it to make it my own because for so long it had been a party trick where people would ask me to sing it, but then it was an absolute imitation which of course surprised everyone. However, while imitation may be considered the highest form of flattery, I don’t believe in recording a song unless I feel I can bring something different to it and put my own stamp on it. My singing always being heartfelt expression of the emotion and the meaning of the lyric, means the song whichever, always dictates my voice… accordingly the colourful lyrics and positive outlook of this song determined in my vocal a fresher, lighter and more colourful expression than in Louis version. This doesn’t mean it is better than only different to… I like and am happy with what I came up with as it is as I hoped to make it. I have even tilted with respect to Mr Armstrong on the words I deemed suited from me to his expression, namely the words ‘What A Wonderful World’. I hope people like iwhat I've done with it.
