ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
She sings and play's doublebass. Singer/songwriter from the start. First she played bassguitar and started in a girlsband when Blondie got great hits.
After a long time of being the bassplayer of a lot of bands and styles she was fat up with the break-ups. She was so addicted to stages that she wanted to play on her own. Guitar wasn't an option, to many strings..the bass was her thing!
So when she has a gig she play's on her own and than you she her almost in dance with her 'wooden baby'. On a Cd however this element is missing. To fill that up she invited a lot of friends to join her in the studio.
Every song is added with one different instrument or musician. So you can hear violin 2, djembé, horns (a couple), electric guitar, piano, Wurlitzer, accordion and saxophone and there are 10 songs.
Lyricks about love, drinking problems, drugs and all there is going in a mans live; with a 'funny wink'.
Songs are in Englisch for one exception, 'Zonder Zorgen' (Without Worries) is in Dutch.
Each song sounds like an unpollisted black diamant.

each song remains a little artwork

‘Wind’ by Renée Stevense singer/songwriter | jazz

Renée Stevense sings and plays double bass. This is a rare combination. It is also the base for every song on her new cd ‘Wind’ and it appears to work out very well!
For each song she invited a musician to add an extra colour to the music.

Renée does have a strong voice and when she lets it float on the dark tone of her instrument something happens. Absorbed you stay and listen how words slips out of her mouth. Not always clears were she is talking about because she has a bit of an accent, but that’s also very charming.

The songs length on average is little less than three minutes, what is for this combination chosen well. The minimal instrumental strength would long compositions make a bit boring, but now each song remains a little artwork.

Renée invited for every song a different musician to add an extra melody to every song with every time a different instrument. On ‘Lovesong’ for example this is the violin player Han de Koning, on ‘Why’ it is Lorien van Doorninck on saxophone and on ‘Garden Nymph’ Eva Meijer plays Wurlitzer. So each song gets extra power.
Only the last song ‘Dancin’ Stevense plays alone, but it stays strong as well!

‘Wind’ is in spite of being short of time a complete Cd, on with Renée Stevense gives us knowledge of being an all-round musician. And because of the minimum of instruments voice, double-bas and one extra, we can hear her qualities. It speaks that she can lets us hear a lot of different styles; dare to do so and done well. That is a beautiful achievement!
