ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
A live recording from December, 1997. The show was part of a jazz concert series featuring the 'Music of the Masters' and was presented just one time in this setting. The long lost tapes were rediscovered and given to Dave in 2010 and a short run of CDs were made. We did it for kicks and a little PR for the band. Unfortunately, Dave was suffering from a long time illness and passed away shortly after doing the project. The recording brings back a lot of good memories for me and everyone who's heard it. Rest in peace, Dave.
The arrangements were done by pianist Tom McClung or trombonist Tim Atherton, and the bands performance was inspired by the spirit of the composers. All tunes are used with the permission of the publishers/Harry Fox Agency. The musicians were some of New England's finest and brought a wide variety of experience to the band;
Steve Sonntag - trumpet (Jeff Holmes Big Band, Amherst Jazz Orchestra)
Tim Atherton - trombone/arranger (Amherst Jazz Orchestra, Paradise City Jazz Band)
Marc Weissman - alto & tenor sax (USAF)
Tom McClung - piano/arranger (Archie Shepp, Yusef Lateef)
Dave Shapiro - acoustic bass (Chet Baker, Lee Konitz, Woody Herman)
Phil Ori - drums (Paradise City Jazz Band)
