ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Singer/songwriter/guitarist Steve Vansak was born and raised in Gary, Indiana, home of steel mills and the Jackson 5. Sandwiched between Chicago and miles of farmland, Vansak experienced many different lifestyles and musical styles. A veteran of the Midwest music scene, his bands have run the gamut from R&B, top-40 pop, folk, Motown Soul, and rock. All of these influences and more affect his latest release, A Different Road.

The ten track CD features the rock sounds of "Rocks and Bone" and "Mountain of Pain" to the street soul of "Peace with the Night". Vansak is ably backed by the Joe Roberts Band (Bill Hayden - piano & organ, Mike Sluga - drums, Aaron Yakovetz - bass), who keep pace with the musical diversity. Housed in a beautifully packaged digipak, with an 8 page lyric booklet, the album is high quality in sight and sound.

If you enjoy Tom Petty, U2, Ryan Adams, Pete Yorn, David Gray, then give this CD a try.

"A Different Road" is the best Vansak has done yet!!
The Times (Highland, IN), Writer: Tom Lounges, Column: Local Scene, Date: December 28, 2001Arriving at press time to cap off the flood of local releases with a bang was "A Different Road". This latest 10-song set from singer/songwriter Steve Vansak is the best this talented Valpo native has done yet.

Local musician takes his act to the Internet
Source: Great Lakes Publishing, Writer: Andre Salles, Date: January 3rd, 2002Vansak, a low-key, agreeable sort, makes music that falls under much the same description. "A Different Road" ranges from the straight ahead rock of "Rocks and Bone" to the acoustic tinged Americana of "Mountain of Pain". It draws from a number of mainstream rock influences, and is the type of CD that most people who hear it end up liking.

Honest music from the heartland.
A Different Road, the latest offering from talented and inspired Indiana artist Steve Vansak, joins my list of recordings that are too damn good and real for the music industry to ever care about. The greatest music has always been that which no one has heard of, and maybe that's a good thing, because it is the frustration of being ignored that often makes an artist great. I personally saw Steve perform songs solo from this album at a sold out musical awards show in Griffith, Indiana recently, and his performance was so solid I didn't even miss the band. Do yourself a favor, turn off the radio and turn onto A DIFFERENT ROAD.
