Introducing Strangecraft - a concept album from a concept band by the sci fi electronic rock artist - Xeno Giraffe. Astronaut Monkey, which covers two CDs was developed over the summer of 2012, reworked in November of 2012, remixed January 2013, and released by American Pangea Label to the general public January 13, 2013.
Art rock, progressive rock, jazz rock, or sonic rock - its not always easy to describe the usually diverse orchestra of sounds that envelope the listener in a science fiction adventure that spans from the recent past to the near future. Astronaut Monkey pulls musical ideas from early 1900s to 1960s B-Movie splendor in creating the story of a monkey captured from a jungle and trained to be an early outer space pioneer for NASA.
The mysterious disappearance of the space craft leads to the downfall of mankind from a moon colony invasion led by the monkey transformed into a super intelligent blob with a virus that transforms people into mindless zombies at the control of the brains in the floating bubbles, who abducted the Astronaut Monkey to begin with - in service to the Sky Lords, who portal from place to place through the galaxy. A small group of scientists figure a way to escape the fate of mankind by traveling back in time.
Sonically designed to evoke a big screen movie experience in the listener, Astronaut Monkey stands on the shoulders of many other progressive rock and electronic music pioneers like Pink Floyd, Yes, Genesis, King Crimson, Kraftwerk, Mike Oldfield, Tangerine Dream to the likes of David Byrne, Talking Heads, Tom Tom Club, Robert Fripp, and Brian Eno - Strangecraft could be the heavy metal soundtrack to an Outer Limits and Twilight Zone episode combined.
Strangecraft - Astronaut Monkey is the third in a series of two other epic sci-fi electronic rock concept albums by Xeno Giraffe, which are Dinosaur UFOs: Episode One "Wolfmen From Outer Space" and EONS AGO. All distributed through the American Pangea Label.
Xeno Giraffe was an art project started in 1980 at the School Of The Museum Of Fine Arts, Boston by Jeff Thompson, who adopted the name to release independent experimental music under as a moniker. Commercially releasing fractal based music in the 1990's, after a critically acclaimed first work - Xeno Giraffe - In 3D - an electronic keyboard performance cult collectible that has led to today's significant turn in musical direction by this years poly-rhythmic prog rock album Astronaut Monkey.
