Let Me Hear the Dropping Pin

by Strange Haze

Heavy Psych-Boogie Rock-Silver Sparkled Flute Salad—combines heavy blues-based guitar tones, funky rhythms and a dose of hypnotic psychedelic flourishes, topped off with simple-but-anthemic choruses and an overall jivey, blissed-out, good-time spirit.

Recorded and mixed by Mitch Rackin at Seaside Lounge, Brooklyn, NY.

Formerly known as Whooping Crane, STRANGE HAZE is a Brooklyn quartet that has been whooping up a raucous racket of riff rock since 2008 and boasts an impressive resumé; Guitarist/vocalist Michael "Big Sir the Conductor" Lo has recorded and/or toured with artists from The Phenomenal Handclap Band to Latin soul legend Joe Bataan to garage and punk luminaries such as Richard Lloyd and Tav Falco’s Panther Burns, while percussionist/flute player/guitarist Dave “the Handler” Scott is an alumni of rapper Guru’s live and recording unit. Along with drummer Bushwick Ronnie Seward and bassist Doug Mayer (who replaced original bassist Keith Avenue in June 2010) STRANGE HAZE has digitally released one six-song CD EP, "Riffin' For Rent" and is now unleashing its debut vinyl release, a two-sided killer of a 45. "Let Me Hear the Dropping Pin"/"Test Driver" contains two seriously raucous jams that have become staples of the band's live set.

Gleaning

Inspired? Yep. Unique? Absosmurfly.
Whenever I listen to Strange Haze, I constantly get transported to my dank basement where the early Hendrix/Cream/Mothers of Invention vinyls live. Then I snap right out of it and ask myself what I'm even talking about; I haven't heard anything like these dudes before, ever. And as long as the band keeps pumping out such electric and addictive tracks like these, my internal schizo-arguments won't cease.
