ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"The Story Behind My Album" : I had wanted to make a professionally-recorded CD for about 10 years and I began saving money for it back in the '90's. I have known since I was a small child how much I enjoyed performing music for others. Finally after playing organ recitals or master classes in some important venues, I knew I was ready to make a CD! I made a list of organ music I wanted to record and a few piano pieces that were my favorites. I have been studying music with some excellent teachers for years, so I had their help and advice with my project. The singer at my church, Bev Benda, who has a song on my CD, suggested a good recording technician I could use: Jerry Nedilsky, a man who retired from the Army Band. The actual learning of and recordings of the music took 2 1/2 years! I never dreamed of all the work and time planning it which would go into the CD. Now that it's made, I say Hurray! by Susan Burkhalter © 2011

I love this cd
I love Susan Burkhalter's classical CD. It has such a variety of pieces and even a variety of instruments. It starts off with a dramatic organ piece by Louis Vierne and has three pieces by J.S. Bach (my favorite). It even has a piece recorded live, which adds another dimension to the CD. Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring has a vocalist, which is a refreshing surprise. In the middle, the instrument changes to piano and there are several wonderful pieces. My favorite is Claude Debussy's First Arabesque. It is a very moving rendition. Near the end of this section, there is a
boogy woogy piece: Kitten on the Keys, which is very light and another surprise. All in all, this CD is a wonderful mix which kept my attention more than many classical CD's I have listened to.
