ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Born and raised in New Orleans Sybil Gage had front row schooling in what makes that city great. Now living in Florida, Sybil’s performances transport locals and tourists back in time to Storyville. The “Little Dynamo” , is slinky in sequins, funky in fishnets , and tantalizing in her trademark powder puff pumps. Did I mention hats! She sings Pre War Blues, Vaudeville and Traditional Jazz and many outstanding original tunes that fit seamlessly into her vast repertoire. She has become the darling of the east coast, from Florida to New York City , enchanting audiences as she slips easily in and out of the genres, with a clear powerful voice that, yields to emotion. No wonder she has been able to open for such diverse acts as John Waite, Zydeco Queen Rosie Ledet, Dave Mason, The “Sauce Boss” and also share the stage with Trombonist Glen David Andrews. Her stage is decorated with boas and hat boxes. She says they remind her of her days working in the Chris Owens Club on Bourbon St. as a costume valet . “When Mrs. Owens got off the stage I was there to help her out of and into a quick change of costume”. Now Gage shines on her own with 2 outstanding CD’s of original material. Her debut CD RED (2007) , rose to critical acclaim. NOLA CALLING (2010) was nominated for “Best Self Produced CD” by the International Blues Competition ( IBC) in Memphis. WWOZ’s Gentilly Jr. says of NOLA Calling “ I was eagerly awaiting it’s release and I wasn’t disappointed. Great songwriting and great musicianship.”

Sybil performs regularly in the Space Coast Jazz Society Concert Series. She has returned to headline the New Smyrna Beach Jazz Festival 5 times, and attributes her success to the unique experience of growing up in New Orleans . “When you hear that much good music , all the time, it’s bound to rub off on you.” Gage is also a regular performer at the Noble “Thin Man” Watts Festival in Deland Florida. Sybil’s first job out of High School was as an on air personality at WYLD FM. She currently hosts “Sybil Gage’s Stormy Monday Show” every Saturday night on www.1300wmel.com. Florida Today calls Sybil Gage “The Undisputed Queen of Local Blues and Jazz”. Gage has recently concluded an unprecedented 3 year Tuesday night gig at Heidi’s Jazz Club in Cocoa Beach . Her fans call THEMSELVES “Sybilized” , and they wear T Shirts proudly, inviting others to be similarly anointed. Sybil Gage wears New Orleans proudly.
