Bringing together a unique combination of musicians each year, Tarang is both an intensive artist development programme, and a fascinating collective of musicians.
A unique characteristic of the ensemble is the combination of North and South Indian music traditions, with Western instruments and elements of performance, to create a concert experience rarely seen elsewhere in Indian Classical music performance. By combining this performance concept with dynamic compositions composed for Tarang by masters of the classical Indian music genre, the ensemble presents a refreshing form of contemporary Indian classical music.
The members of Tarang are all semi-professional, and professional emerging musicians living in the UK. The shared goal of the ensemble is the dissemination and development of Indian music in the UK and internationally. They have arrived at Indian Music through a wide variety of avenues; from traditional Indian Classical training in the Guru-Shishya style, to Western Classically trained musicians who have discovered Indian Music and developed their practice from personal passion.
