ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The Original People of the Four Directions all share a love of life on earth as well as a Mystical and deeply profound connection to the Heavens, the Milky Way Galaxy and the Dogstar, the Sirius Star System. This cd is the equivalent of a PhD is my studies of Cultural Astronomy. It represents a musical dissertation on the pyramid and Sirius Indigenous Cultures. This collection includes teachings from the cultures of the Four Directions, beginning with the EastL Esho Funi (The Oneness of You and Your Environoment; from the Lotus Sutra and Nichiren Japanese Buddhism), Keep Chanting (Itai Doshin: from the Lotus Sutra and Nichiren Japanese Buddhism) and Master of Desire (Baghavahd Gita).

People of the South: Love & Joy is actually an Afro-Brasilian classic, Xodo, translated into English & redone in this contemporary style. Next we arrive at Kemet and then Mali: "Egyptian Bluez" & "AST MAAT: R U Sirius Enuff?". Egyptian Bluez is the first song that I wrote as an adult. I wrote songs all the time as a child. Didn't think anything of it back then! Anyway, added Kemetic chants years later. Ast Maat, is my higher self asking me this question! Sirius is equivalent to Aset, Isis, the goddess of wisdom and healing words of power. Am I Sirius Enuff to devote my life to my higher self, to serving the Divine? Can I be like Aset? In this song, I also chant the Principles of Maat: Balance, Truth, Order, Harmony, Justice, Reciprocity, and Righteousness. Po Tolo is from the Dogon culture of Mali. Yes, this is a song about the Dog Star. Written from my notes when I was dong research! Read "The Sirius Mystery" or visit my website for more information.

People of the West. Next we head to Cherokee land: Starting with Where the Dog Ran, yet another story about Dogs and Stars! This time, we have the Cherokee legend of How the Milky Way Came to Be: Where the Dog Ran. Fire Water is a tribute to the Quechua, who call the Milky Way the Rio Mayu: River of Light. Equinox, classic jazz tune by John Coltrane. I wrote these lyrics when I wanted to sing to my daughters about the equinox when they were being home-schooled. I obtained permission from Alice Coltrane years before she died. She actually died while I was in the studio recording this song! Precession of the Equinox is an instrumental piece, piano solo. No Kwi Si Iga is an original song in Cherokee about things that I love about life on Earth as we go through the seasons. Great Purification of All Things is from the Hopi Prophecies.

Teachings from the North: Fucked Up System: title says it all. Ah, yes, but we live in a Wonderful World! That classic tune, made famous by Louis Armstrong.

Ending with Instrumental version of Egyptian Bluez featuring a Kora and Fela-ish organ solo!
