Urban Tulsa Weekly/Gary Hizer

...The Sled Chronicles may very well be the most fun local Christmas album Tulsa
A quick glance at the track list tells the story sufficiently. Holiday standards like "Santa Claus is Coming to Town", "Holly Jolly Christmas" and "Frosty the Snowman" stand up next to classic Christmas rock and blues tunes like "Merry Christmas Baby" and "Santa Bring My Baby Back to Me" for a rollicking good time.
The disc kicks off with "Santa Claus is Coming to Town", which sets the tone for the rest of the album. Yes, it's a holiday rock & roll record, as one would expect when looking at the list of band members. What you may not expect, however, the direction the band goes in. Instead of delving into more aggressive punk and hard rock as you might initially expect, however, the band primarily channels the innocence and joy of 50's garage rock and doo-wop.
Even on the songs that go running down a punk-rock path like "Holly Jolly Christmas", the band pulls from the punch-drunk simplicity and fun of The Ramones. Elsewhere, when the group takes a more blues-oriented approach to the songs, Souders and the gang usually end up evoking the spirit of Elvis, as witnessed in "Santa Bring My Baby Back to Me" and "Here Comes Santa Claus" (a personal favorite on the disc).
The best song on the CD, though, may very well be the wild-card entry on the set list. "Hey, Mister Santa Claus" is the lone original, written by Erv Felker for the project. Admittedly, it didn't do much for me upon first listen as the one song that I didn't already know, but after a couple of spins it quickly revealed itself as the standout track. Who ever thought that wrapping Santa in a surf beat could be so much fun?
If you're tired of somber Christmas records and looking for a CD that really celebrates the season, don't pass by Team Galaxy's The Sled Chronicles without grabbing a copy. It's guaranteed to bring your Christmas parties to life for years to come.
