There are many sterile left-brained record label terms designed to catagorize the intellectual music which many people always liked the most: Art-Rock, Space-Rock, Techno-Rock, College-Rock, Modern Rock, Avant-Garde, Thinking Man's Metal, Neo-Classical, etc. There is a link, a common denominator and higher authority to which all of these sub-genres belong: Progressive Rock.
Progressive music fans have always liked timeless and complex music that has an amazing range of moods attached to it and are huge fans of experimentation, changes in instrumentation and style, musical virtuosity and music pieces as long or as short as needed to convey what the song or artist needs to convey.
The preference is more of a listening experience than a dancing experience and progressive fans tend to prefer melodic arrangements to the nature of percussive pop music. Preferring freedom of musical expression through artistic idealism and abstract concepts portrayed in music.
Being a fan of "Progressive" rock and also because I love it so much, I decided to become a musician many moons ago, creating music of my own, finding there is many things to yet be explored in the realm of "Prog." Fortunately in this day and age, one can do music on their own without anyone's pontificating blessing, achieving incredible results in the realm of the home studio all while exploring musical possibilities which would have been previously limited and controlled by many record labels, engineers fellow band members, and even society.
The songs I always liked best when working with various bands in the past were the conceptual ones. The bands I always liked best were the ones where quality was more important than appearance. The people I have enjoyed knowing the most are the ones where thinking is not a chore. My music is the sum total of my thoughts and experiences. If you are finding what I am saying to make sense then I urge you to just give Temporary Power a listen.
Science fiction and progressive rock and the paranormal are quite compatible in my world and the three are joined together to form my musical story.
