Since his professional debut in 1976, Terrence Farrell has become one of the world's most sought-after classical guitarists, winning international acclaim for his concerts, television appearances, and recordings. Born in Salzburg, Austria, Mr. Farrell began studying the guitar at the age of eight and eventually became the protege of American guitarist Guy Horn, He has since gone on to win awards in competitions from the National Endowment for the Arts, University of Washington, the Palm Springs Opera Guild and the Monterey Jazz Festival. His stylish, forceful musicianship has been praised for the eloquent versatility with which it moves from the Classical to the Romantic to the most demanding contemporary compositions. The depth, grace, and elegance of his interpretations have moved audiences and critics alike.
The ease, with which Mr. Farrell establishes a friendly, conversational rapport with his audiences has made his performances particularly popular. As a result, he has been invited to play in forty-eight states and thirty-four countries around the world, from the America’s to Europe and the Far East. He has twice performed for American presidents and has been a guest performer on the world cruise of the QEII.
The friendliness of Mr. Farrell's approach, along with his ability to translate complex musical ideas into verbal concepts, has created a great demand for his master classes and seminars, conducted in Europe, Asia and the United States. For years he directed the International Guitar Seminars in Bavaria.
As a "cultural ambassador" to the United States, Farrell often tours for the U.S. State Department presenting American music and culture to foreign audiences.
He has produced the music for commercials in the United States and Europe including U.P.S. Farrell's performance of one of his compositions, Gypsy Serenade, was featured on an audio tour of Big Sur, California narrated by Clint Eastwood.
Mr. Farrell's critically praised recordings for Orion and Troubadour Recordings include Espana de mi Corazon, Love Songs for Guitar, Alla Romanza, Mexico con amor, Boogie Bistro, Cafe Rio, A Classical Journey, Here Comes the Sun, Till There Was You and A Carmel Christmas and are available on compact disc. Travels with my Spanish Guitar is a compilation of 14 compositions he wrote inspired by his world travels. His DVD, Terrence Farrell – Guitarist, features a pictorial journey around the world with some of his musical renditions and his photos.
In 2009 he was lauded for his virtuoso performance as the lead guitarist in the musical Man of La Mancha in which the whole orchestra was distilled down to two guitars. He has also performed on the Baroque Guitar music of the Mexican Baroque for the Carmel Bach Festival. Mr. Farrell is the accompanist for the renowned Spanish Flamenco Dancer Alicia Morena de la Palma.
