ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Tex Callens, at 78 years old, has released his first professional recording. Growing up in East Texas, his influences were Jimmy Rodgers, Hank Williams and other classic country music pioneers from the time when modern country music emerged as a fusion of blues and folk traditions. 'Going Back to Texas' includes covers of these artists and others, as well as several wonderfully authentic tracks (#2, #4 and #11) written by Tex himself. This CD was produced by Dean Rosenthal and remains respectfully true to the retro style.

We hope you enjoy this trip back into a golden era of American roots music.

Going Back to Country Roots
At a time when it's hard to tell much of today's country music from pop and rock 'n roll, it is deeply satisfying to listen to this album of traditional country classics. Tex Callens is bringing back the art of yodeling on such classics as Blues Stay Away from Me and Travelin' Blues. His pure and simple rendition of Never No More Blues is not to be missed. Some other of my favorites are May You Never Be Alone Like Me, She Even Woke Me Up (To Say Good-bye), and one of Tex's original songs, I've Got a Real Good Memory. He is accompanied on this album by some beautiful steel guitar and fiddle playing. If you enjoy the storytelling tradition of country music and that old time honky tonk and blues sound, then you will like this album!
