Many landside radio stations that programmed jazz music have switched to news-talk or other formats leaving a void for jazz fans. But jazz music is alive and well online filling the void with no territorial boundary. Internet stations such as WGMC Jazz90.1 in Greece, New York now reach jazz listeners from afar as Athens, Greece.
Online DJs and music directors are introducing jazz music to a younger generation on social media such as Twitter and Facebook. Those new fans are buying jazz by the likes of Miles Davis, Charles Mingus and Dave Brubeck that were originally released back in the 50s and 60s.
Internet radio is also a blessing for new labels and recording artists," says Robert Wardrick founder of Washington, DC based One Language Music. Its artist Thad Wilson Jazz Orchestra is getting exposure through online radio.
