An Affair With the Blues

by Thais Clark

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The Jazz Foundation of America is a non-profit that assists elderly jazz and blues musicians in need, offering emergency assistance and performance opportunities to artists who have “paid their dues” but struggle to pay their rent due to age, illness or circumstance. In early 2009, the JFA began to release the "Saint Agnes Sessions," a series of CD projects featuring composers and performers whose livelihoods are limited by disability or poor health conditions. The first four volumes featured original works by New Orleans bandleaders Clyde Kerr Jr., Ernie Elly and Wardell Quezergue. The fifth and latest volume, featuring the acclaimed singer Thais Clark, comes out in April 2014.

The main goal for the Saint Agnes Sessions is to create dignified employment for elderly music veterans, legends who, due to health or old age, are not able to find steady work or participate fully in our related Jazz in The Schools performance program. For these musicians, to go to the recording studio is to keep active and creative, to engage in their own original work, free from the commercial machinations that hang in the background of so many musical careers. The Jazz Foundation of America seeks to help ensure that these individuals are not forgotten, and are engaged in music creation as long as their health permits.
