ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Pirates, Possums & Pandemonium!
A rollicking adventure in 22 songs.

An evil pirate and his plucky monkey invade the swamp in search of hidden treasure. And they’ll destroy everything to find it. But they may have underestimated the swamp friends, who join forces to fight for their community.

43 minutes of non-stop excitement, featuring love-struck possums, a crafty raccoon, a gruff gator, a pokey turtle and so much more!

Deep in the swamp, our story opens with the Frog Chorus describing the sights and
sounds that make their BACKWATER, BOTTOMLAND BOWL such a unique and mystical place. And they hint that evil could be just around the bend. The swamp animal friends, happy and secure living together in their marshy community, celebrate another GLORIOUS DAY in the swamp. At the end of the song, Pattie Possum makes eye contact with Petey Possum, and he falls down in a dead faint. He’s just in love, explains the Frog Chorus in POOR PETEY POSSUM. Petey sings YOU KNOCK ME OUT, lamenting his inability to face Pattie. Meanwhile, the Frog Chorus warns that, as they had feared, EVIL IS HERE. The evil is Captain Simon LeToes, a sinister pirate who’s come to the swamp to find Lafitte’s treasure. He and his monkey first mate outline their wicked plan to DRAIN THE SWAMP. News of the pirate spreads quickly among the swamp friends in THE ALARM SONG. In their distress, Pattie, Petey and the swamp friends are moved to sing an anthem to their precious SWAMP LAND. Inspired by Owl, the swamp friends come up with clever ideas to save the swamp in PLAN A. Of course, whenever all the swamp friends are together, there’s a good chance Petey will look at Pattie and collapse. And when he does it again, Pattie sings to a passed-out Petey how she wishes for A MINUTE OF YOUR TIME. But at the end of her song, the pirate kidnaps her and takes her to his ship. The Frog Chorus keeps us in suspense asking WHAT’S HE GONNA DO? The pirate and his monkey answer the question in ONE-POSSUM STEW. The swamp friends return to admit that their plans to stop the pirate didn’t work in RUNNING OUT OF IDEAS BLUES. But there’s hope, as Raccoon announces to the group, I GOT A GUY who can help. All rejoice that Raccoon has brought in an army of bugs to try to drive the pirate away. They are unaware that Pattie is being held prisoner on the pirate’s ship until Petey overhears the Frog Chorus singing about her plight in POOR, POOR PATTIE. Determined to rescue her, Petey decides to PLAY DEAD next to the pirate’s ship so he’ll get kidnapped, too. His plan works, and the pirate is so excited he announces he’s changing his dinner menu to TWO-POSSUM STEW. The Frog Chorus tells us that while things are looking bad, SOMETHING’S IN THE AIR that could change everything. When the pirate sees the swarm of bugs coming, he reveals that despite all the adventurous things he’s done, he’s terrified of CREEPY, CREEPY, YUCKY bugs. The swamp friends’ plan worked! The Frog Chorus lets us know the swarm made the pirate and his monkey leave the swamp, Petey was able to save Pattie, and it’s time to LAISSEZ LES BON TEMPS ROULER - let the good times roll! With all the swamp friends rejoicing, Pattie, Petey and Owl remind everyone
that the real treasure is their home. It’s what makes them truly RICH. Finally, the Frog Chorus rounds out the moral of the story in EPILOGUE.
