ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"Unfortunate of Fucked-Up", the centrepiece to Verkeerdevlei takes the form of a post-apocalyptic game show in which Jaco van Schalkwyk (of Jaco + Z-dog fame) plays a screamo Johan Stemmet diagnosing the State of the Nation as The Buckfever's Beat poetic Master of Ceremonies, Toast Coetzer, spits newspaper headlines torn from the media machine. As the shorn and shredded outtakes of a culture's synthetic tales pile up on the cutting-room floor, Van Schalkwyk's answers give way to glass-shattering screams, laughs and whimpers. The track sets tghe tone for the album. It is the Buckfever's most consummate, but also most fucked-up record yet. - Miles Keylock, Rolling Stone

Toast Coetzer, part Bukowski part-Boris Pasternak, guides the cabal with his haunting voice on a search for some kind of gritty South African truth between axe-cut Afrikaans verses, English melodies and lots of cigarettes. - Max Barashenkov, Obrigado magazine
