ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The Requiem of Frigyes Hidas is the very first work ever composed especially for symphonic band, four-part choir and four vocal soloists which retains the traditional structure of a requiem. The spritual involvement which composers have had with the requiem result in some of most valued works in musical history: Mozart, Verdi, and Faure. The celebrated Hungarian composer, Frigyes Hidas, has joined the ranks of those inspired souls who have written requiems; although his is not orchestrated for the traditional symphony orchestra but instead for symphonic band. His Requiem represents an important work in composer's own right and certainly an invaluable addition to the symphonic band literature. Hidas, who refers to himself as the last of the romantic composers, acquaints us with a world of exceptional structures and ever-changig rhytmic complexities as well as beautiful melodies and harmonies.
