ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The Colbys are John Colby and Bev Rohlehr.

Bev Rohlehr has sung in venues all over the world. She sang with the Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra, the National Jazz Ensemble and was the only woman to sing and record with the Persuasions. Rohlehr has also performed nationally on ESPN's Espys and the NASCAR Award Show.

John Colby is a Grammy and Emmy Award winning producer (Ken Burns, Civil War). He was music director and band leader for the late Clarence Clemons -they produced two albums together. Colby wrote and produced ESPN's iconic Sportscenter Theme and has written and produced hundreds of TV themes. He has been Music Director and band leader for ESPN's Espys for 20 years.

On CHRISTMAS GUMBO The Colbys are joined by gospel and R&B musicians whose credits include: Steely Dan, James Brown, Bruce Springsteen, Levon Helm, the Neville Brothers, Dr John, Allen Toussaint, and the Rolling Stones. The arrangements draw from gospel, R&B and big band roots.

Featured are a New Orleans twist on "Twas the Night Before Christmas"; an original rocker, "Santa's Hideaway";
Original swing/big band versions of White Christmas & Winter Wonderland; a rave gospel "Joy to the World" and a jazzy Steely Dan-like arrangement of "My (Bev's) Favorite Things".
